If you’ve ever wondered what a race engineer actually does, the short answer is: a lot. They’re the link between you, the car, and the data, translating driver feedback into setup changes, building strategies based on what’s happening in real time, and making sure every decision on a race weekend has a solid technical foundation behind it.
At ACI, our engineers work closely with every driver we run. That means proper debriefs, clear explanations of what the data is showing, and setup changes that are tailored to how you drive, not just copied from a generic baseline. It’s a collaborative process, and for most of our drivers, it’s one of the most valuable parts of racing with us.
Data is where most of the real performance gains live. Our engineers use professional telemetry systems to capture detailed information from every session, giving us a clear picture of exactly what the car and driver are doing at every point on the circuit.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Real-Time Data Monitoring: While you’re out on track, our engineers are watching live data from the car. If something changes- a setup issue, a shift in behavior, anything unusual- we’ll spot it quickly and act accordingly.
Post-Session Performance Reports: After every session, we put together a structured analysis covering lap times, sector breakdowns, brake and throttle traces, and vehicle dynamics. It’s not just numbers on a screen; we walk through it with you so it actually means something.
Lap Time Benchmarking and Competitor Analysis: We look at where time is being found and lost, how our pace compares to the benchmark for each circuit, and where competitors are gaining on us. That gives us something concrete to work on rather than just guessing.
Driver Input Analysis: We break down steering, throttle, and braking inputs to find the areas where technique can be refined. For drivers earlier in their career, this often unlocks more time than any setup change could.
Every circuit is different, and every driver is different. Our engineers don’t apply a one-size-fits-all setup; they build something that works for the track, the conditions, and the person behind the wheel.
We work across the full range of adjustable parameters on our Porsche machinery: suspension geometry, dampers, aero configurations, tire pressures, differential settings. The process starts with a baseline informed by our existing data from previous visits to each venue, gets refined through practice using your feedback alongside what the telemetry is telling us, and ends with a race setup that balances outright pace with the consistency you need to complete the distance.

Our engineers aren’t just working away in the garage while you race. They’re on the pit wall, listening to the radio, watching the timing screens, and making calls in real time throughout qualifying and the race.
